
Unskilled daily laborers had become a common sight in a corner of different places of Long Island and Queens, they stand defying weather with the hope to being hired for the day. There is a lot of controversy from the two sides about this, but this article cover another angle.
A panel of experts was created by the city with the purpose of studying the possibility of the construction of specialized centers for day laborers with the aim of regulating the working conditions of laborers who stand in freezing temperatures in winter and have been reportedly abused or underpay at work. After 7 moths of sporadic meetings the panel did not reach any conclusion. This contrast with another experts panel hired to study how to improved the security of construction workers and who came to definitive recommendations after 4 moths of study.
